Vancouver is a wonderful destination – especially if you love the outdoors. Everything starts in Stanley Park, and there are lots of ways to explore it: walking, biking, horse-drawn trolley, bus – you name it. Our hotel was terrific – the Fairmont Pacific Rim – right across the street from the Olympic Cauldron from the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The hotel gave us bikes and we went exploring Stanley Park and its gardens. Later we visited Queen Elizabeth Park. The temperate climate is good for plants and trees. At night there are tons of great restaurants and music options.

If you go to Vancouver, make sure to visit Capilano River Park. Their high tree walkway gives you a chance to experience nature from a different perspective – up in the clouds. The Capilano Suspension Bridge stretches 450 feet across and 230 feet above the river. As you walk across it sways in the wind. Certainly a challenge for those of us who are terrified of heights.
